The 50 Million Pound Challenge - Are you ready Houston?

Houston has been challenged by the 50 Million Pound team to become a healthier City.

The Mayor’s Wellness Council has partnered with the 50 Million Pound Challenge to help Houston Get fit and Get Moving. Started by Dr. Ian Smith, the 50 million Pound Challenge encourages all Americans to take a pro-active stance and make positive lifestyle changes to reduce obesity in our communities.  (more…)

International Challenge Day 2009

Looking for a Physical Fitness Challenge? Well, join the exercise challenge as Houston competes with other cities internationally. Get Moving Houston would like to have ONE MILLION EXERCISERS participate in some form of physical exercise for at least 15 minutes on Wednesday, May 20th ! After you have complete your physical fitness activity, report your results by e-mail to challengeday2009@cityofhouston.net no later than Thursday, May 21st .  

If you are a fitness instructor, you may report for their entire class/group. Thanks for helping Houston accept the “Challenge” of International Challenge Day.

Texas Round Up 2009

The Texas Round-Up 10K, 5K and Family Mile will be held  in Austin, Texas on April 25, 2009. Race weekend begins with a health and fitness expo showcasing vendors and sponsors. The race is followed by a fitness festival where families can enjoy live music, food, fitness demonstrations and family friendly activities. Participants spend months training for Texas Round-Up, and for several participants, the Texas Round-Up is their first race, making the events a very special accomplishment and a true celebration of healthy living.

The Rise and Shine Run 2009

The sixth annual Rise and Shine 5K Walk and Run will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 7:00 am in Hall A of the George O Brown Convention Center. The event will include a 5K Walk and Run, a 1K fun run for kids and many activities for the whole family.

Rise and Shine benefits The Rise School of Houston, a nationally recognized pre-school for children with and without Down Syndrome and other disabilities. All proceeds from the run go directly to benefit the children who attend the school.
